S 1639: Prohibits the use of unmarked police vehicles, concealed identity police vehicles, including police vehicles which use ghost graphics, and undercover police officers for routine traffic enforcement.
What S 1639 does, verified January 8, 2026
The bill aims to prohibit the use of unmarked police vehicles, concealed identity police vehicles, and undercover police officers for routine traffic enforcement. This means that law enforcement agencies will no longer be able to use vehicles that have been altered to blend in with regular cars, or officers who are not clearly identified, to stop and apprehend motorists for minor offenses. The law aims to increase transparency and accountability in traffic enforcement.
