What S 1673 does, verified April 18, 2026

The state of New York is implementing a new law that requires employers to provide information to employees regarding student loan repayment options. Employers must give a notice to new hires, especially those with an associate's degree or higher, about repayment options and additional resources. The notice must include information about consolidation and alternative federal student loan repayment plans, such as income-based programs that don't require consolidating existing loans. The notice also provides direction to additional resources, including the website for the Department of Financial Services' student lending resource center. Public employers must also provide a notice about public service loan forgiveness or repayment programs. The law aims to help employees make informed decisions about their student loans and provide them with necessary information to manage their debt.
