What S 1685 does, verified December 2, 2025

The bill aims to allow additional or relocated motor vehicle dealers to be located within six or ten miles of one another, separated by the Hudson River. The distance for dealers in counties with over 100,000 population is six miles, measured from the nearest surveyed boundary of the existing dealer's principal place of business. For dealers in counties with less than 100,000 population, the distance is ten miles, also measured from the existing dealer's principal place of business. The bill also considers the Hudson River as a dividing line, allowing dealers on the opposite side to be within ten miles of each other. The population of a county is determined using the most recent census data or population updates from recognized sources. The bill takes effect immediately.
