What S 1689 does, verified March 3, 2026

The proposed law aims to improve transparency and accessibility of government meetings in the state. It requires that open meetings of agencies or authorities be open to professional journalists and members of the press, with no restrictions on access. The law also mandates that public notice of meetings be given to the news media and local governments at least 72 hours before the meeting, and that a draft agenda be posted on the agency's website 24 hours before the meeting. These changes are intended to increase public access to government information and promote transparency in decision-making processes.
