Senate BillIntroduced

S 1732: Relates to increasing the phase-out threshold for tuition assistance program awards from seven thousand dollars to eighteen thousand dollars.

New York · Senate · 2025–2026 Legislative Session · last verified January 8, 2026

What S 1732 does, verified January 8, 2026

The bill aims to increase the phase-out threshold for tuition assistance program awards in New York. Currently, the base amount is reduced based on income, but the phase-out threshold is not adjusted accordingly. This bill would modify the education law to ensure that the phase-out threshold is aligned with the reduction in base amount. As a result, students from lower-income families would receive more tuition assistance, while those from higher-income families would receive less. The changes would take effect 180 days after the bill becomes a law.
