  STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 1777 2025-2026 Regular Sessions  IN SENATE January 13, 2025 ___________ Introduced by Sen. WALCZYK -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Elections AN ACT to amend the election law, in relation to requiring persons appointed as election commissioners to be citizens of the United States The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Subdivision 4 of section 3-200 of the election law, as 2 amended by chapter 195 of the laws of 2003, is amended to read as 3 follows: 4 4. No person shall be appointed as election commissioner or continue 5 to hold office who is not a registered voter in the county [and], not an 6 enrolled member of the party recommending [his] such person's appoint- 7 ment, not a citizen of the United States, or who holds any other public 8 office, except that of commissioner of deeds, notary public, village 9 officer, city or town justice, member of a community board within the 10 city of New York or trustee or officer of a school district outside of a 11 city. 12 § 2.
