What S 1804 does, verified July 2, 2025

The bill aims to require insurance coverage for certain asthma inhalers at no cost to policyholders. It amends the insurance law to include coverage for inhalers prescribed by a physician or licensed healthcare provider for the treatment of asthma. The coverage must include one form of rescue inhaler and one form of maintenance inhaler without deductibles, copays, coinsurance, or other cost-sharing requirements. High deductible health plans are exempt from this requirement if it would result in ineligibility for a health savings account. The bill applies to policies and contracts issued, renewed, modified, altered, or amended on or after January 1, 2027.
