What S 2014 does, verified January 8, 2026

The bill aims to amend the penal law to remove the maximum age limit for individuals who can receive firearms instruction exemptions. Currently, individuals under 12 years old can receive instruction under the supervision of a commissioned officer or a certified instructor, as well as parents or guardians who have a certificate in responsible hunting practices. The bill also expands the age range for individuals who can possess air-powered or compressed gas firearms under the supervision of a certified instructor. Additionally, the bill allows individuals aged 14 and above who meet certain conditions to possess and use pistols or revolvers at designated ranges, as long as they are supervised by a qualified person. The changes will take effect immediately.
