What S 2052 does, verified January 8, 2026

The bill aims to amend the Real Property Tax Law in New York. It requires the warrant for collecting school district unexpended surplus funds to be signed by the trustee, trustees, or a majority of them, or the board of education. The warrant must state the amount of unexpended surplus funds and that they have been applied to determine the school tax levy. The bill specifies different percentage thresholds for surplus funds used in the school year 2007-2008 and subsequent years. It authorizes the collecting officer to collect the sum set opposite each person's name on the school tax roll, in the same manner and with the same powers as town collecting officers. The bill takes effect on the one hundred twentieth day after it becomes a law.
