What S 2054 does, verified January 8, 2026

The bill aims to improve background checks for prospective employees of child day care centers. It requires the department of education to forward a copy of the individual's criminal history record and fingerprints to the office of children and family services. This information is used to conduct a criminal history record check. The commissioner of the office of children and family services will notify the division of criminal justice services when the individual has been cleared for employment. The division of criminal justice services will then provide subsequent criminal history notifications directly to the commissioner. The bill takes effect immediately.
