What S 2183 does, verified June 1, 2026

The Electric Super Highway Act aims to promote the use of alternative fuels along the New York State Thruway. The law defines alternative fuels as ethanol, bio-diesel, electricity, green hydrogen, and other non-petroleum-based fuels that minimize air pollutant emissions and meet climate justice and emission reduction goals. The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority will provide the New York State Thruway Authority with a list of feasible alternative fuels and assist in implementing requirements for their use. The law requires that public facilities, such as gas stations and restaurants, along the Thruway offer alternative fuels for sale to the public, starting from November 1, 2029.
