What S 225 does, verified January 8, 2026

The bill aims to amend the environmental conservation law to make it easier for parents or guardians to hunt deer with their minors. Currently, the law requires minors to remain at ground level at all times while deer hunting, but this bill proposes to remove this requirement. Instead, the bill would require parents or guardians to have at least three years of experience in hunting deer, hold a valid hunting license, and maintain physical control over the minor while hunting. Physical control means being able to issue verbal directions, maintain visual contact, and provide guidance and supervision to the minor. The bill would take effect immediately, but the amendments made to the law would be repealed along with the original section.
