Senate BillPassed first house
S 2271: Prohibits an employer, licensing agency or employment agency from requesting or requiring that a prospective employee disclose their age, date of birth or date of graduation from an educational institution on an initial employment application or during an interview, except in the case of a bona fide occupational qualification or need.
What S 2271 does, verified March 11, 2026
The proposed law aims to protect job applicants from being asked about their age, date of birth, or date of graduation from a school on an initial job application or during an interview. This law would only allow for disclosure in specific cases where it is a legitimate requirement, such as a genuine occupational need. The law would take effect on the first January after it becomes a law, and employers, licensing agencies, and employment agencies would be required to implement the changes immediately.
