  STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 2273 2025-2026 Regular Sessions  IN SENATE January 16, 2025 ___________ Introduced by Sens. KRUEGER, GALLIVAN, HELMING, LIU, MAY, ROLISON, WEBB -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Codes AN ACT to amend the penal law, in relation to including contacts via text, private message, direct message, email or other electronic communication in the definition of the offense of aggravated harass- ment in the second degree The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Subdivision 2 of section 240.30 of the penal law, as 2 amended by chapter 188 of the laws of 2014, is amended to read as 3 follows: 4 2. With intent to harass or threaten another person, [he or she] such 5 person makes a telephone call, or contacts via text, private message, 6 direct message, email or other electronic communication, whether or not 7 a conversation ensues, with no purpose of legitimate communication; or 8 § 2. This act shall take effect on the first of November next succeed- 9 ing the date upon which it shall have become a law. Effective imme- 10 diately, the addition, amendment and/or repeal of any rule or regulation 11 necessary for the implementation of this act on its effective date are 12 authorized to be made and completed on or before such effective date.
