Senate BillIntroduced

New York · Senate · 2025–2026 Legislative Session · last verified January 8, 2026

What S 2315 does, verified January 8, 2026

The proposed legislation aims to protect individuals from unfair insurance practices by prohibiting insurance companies from imposing fees or co-pays for follow-up visits with a physician to receive a refill on an opioid prescription. The law would apply to policies covering opioid prescriptions, limiting the fee or co-pay to one visit or one refill after the initial appointment or prescription. This restriction would not apply to subsequent consultations for the same pain, allowing practitioners to issue new prescriptions as needed. The law would take effect on the 90th day after it becomes a law.
