S 2480: Directs the New York state energy and research development authority to establish a pilot program to install a microgrid in Glenwood Houses; requires the authority to annually report on the results of such program and any recommendations for expansion.
The state of New York aims to establish a pilot program to install a microgrid in Glenwood Houses in Kings County. The microgrid will be used for local energy production and distribution, functioning independently or supplementing the main electricity grid for peak demand. It will be powered by renewable energy sources such as solar panels, hydrogen, or wind, combined with energy-efficient generators and low-impact energy storage units like batteries. The program will be funded by allocated funds, and an annual report will be submitted to the governor, the temporary president of the senate, and the speaker of the assembly. The program is expected to take effect 30 days after the bill becomes a law.
