What S 2576 does, verified January 10, 2026

The bill proposes to amend the Penal Law in New York to clarify the definition of a "person" in the context of a homicide. Specifically, it defines a "person" as a human being who has been born and is alive, rather than just being alive at the time of the offense. This change is intended to provide clarity and ensure that the definition is consistent with modern understanding of human life. The bill also states that this change shall take effect immediately.
