What S 2616 does, verified January 9, 2026

The proposed law aims to amend the existing racing, pari-mutuel wagering and breeding law to allow for certain sports wagers. It expands the definition of sports wagering to include bets on individual athlete performance statistics, annual awards, or team performance during a season. The law permits in-game and season-long proposition bets, but limits them to ensure they do not compromise the integrity and fairness of the sports wagering program. Coin toss bets affecting event gameplay are permitted unless prohibited for reasons related to program integrity. The law takes effect immediately upon passage.
