S 2668: Requires limited use motorcycles to have a red tag attached to the charging cord which states to unplug when not in use.
The bill aims to improve safety for users of micromobility devices, mopeds, and bicycles with electric assist. It requires manufacturers and sellers to attach a red tag to the charging cord of these devices, which clearly states "unplug when not in use". The tag must also include additional consumer safety information regarding safe usage of the product and its charging equipment. The New York State Department of State will promulgate rules and regulations to guide the consumer safety information and provide a model tag for use. The bill takes effect on the same date as a related chapter of the laws of 2024.
