Senate BillIntroduced
S 3117: Provides that persons arrested for domestic violence forfeit bail when violating an order of protection.
What S 3117 does, verified January 8, 2026
The bill aims to amend the law to prevent individuals arrested for domestic violence from posting bail when they violate existing orders of protection. This means that if someone is arrested for a domestic violence offense and has previously been ordered to stay away from their victim, they will automatically forfeit their bail if they break this order. The law applies to individuals who have been arrested for domestic violence offenses in New York State, as well as those who have been arrested in other states, territories, or tribal jurisdictions. The bill takes effect immediately, allowing it to be implemented as soon as it is passed.
