S 3289: Adds red cross vehicles to the definition of authorized emergency vehicles.
The bill aims to amend the Vehicle and Traffic Law to include red cross vehicles as authorized emergency vehicles. This means that red cross vehicles, which are owned or leased and operated by the American National Red Cross or its chapters/branches, will be given special privileges on the road. Red cross vehicles will be clearly marked and equipped to indicate their status as emergency vehicles. However, their operators will not be allowed to exercise the privileges set forth in the law, such as running red lights or stopping in the middle of the road. The bill takes effect immediately, allowing red cross vehicles to be recognized as emergency vehicles in the state.
