S 3462: Relates to the rights of tenants to display the flag of the United States.
The bill aims to protect the rights of tenants in New York to display the flag of the United States. It prohibits landlords from prohibiting tenants from displaying the flag in accordance with federal and state laws, as well as local ordinances. The flag must be displayed in a manner consistent with patriotic customs and does not infringe upon the space rented by other tenants. Tenants are required to contact the landlord with reasonable notice before displaying the flag to discuss placement and size. The bill does not exempt tenants from returning the premises to its original condition at the end of a lease. Tenants are liable for damages caused by a displayed flag.
