S 3545: Relates to environmental quality reviews of housing development projects that propose to build twenty or more units; provides that municipalities shall not be prohibited from performing their own environmental reviews.
The proposed legislation aims to enhance environmental quality reviews for certain housing development projects. All state agencies are required to review their authority, regulations, and policies to ensure they comply with the Environmental Conservation Law. Agencies must recommend or implement necessary measures to bring their authority and policies in line with the law. The bill also allows municipalities to perform their own environmental reviews of housing development projects, and issue permits based on these reviews. Additionally, the legislation introduces a new provision that allows for expedited environmental reviews for housing development projects that propose to build twenty or more units. The changes will take effect immediately.
