S 364: Prohibits restrictions on insurance policies based solely on the policyholder harboring or owning any dog of a specific breed or mixture of breeds.
What S 364 does, verified December 13, 2025
The proposed law aims to protect dog owners in New York by prohibiting insurers from refusing to issue or renew policies, or charging increased premiums, based solely on the breed or mixture of breeds of a dog. This means that dog owners will no longer be discriminated against due to the type of dog they own. The law applies to homeowners' and renters' insurance policies and takes effect 90 days after it becomes a law.
