S 3659: Relates to the recall of a class B firefighting foam; prohibits the sale or distribution of firefighting personal protective equipment that contains intentionally added PFAS.
The bill aims to reduce the use of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in firefighting foams and personal protective equipment. It requires manufacturers to recall and properly dispose of class B firefighting foam containing PFAS, and prohibits the sale or distribution of firefighting personal protective equipment with intentionally added PFAS. The bill also exempts certain uses of class B firefighting foam from restrictions if alternative firefighting agents are available and effective. Additionally, the bill restricts the use of PFAS in firefighting foams and equipment, and provides guidance to state agencies and local governments on avoiding the purchase or use of PFAS-containing products.
