S 3748: Expands the total enrollment percentage standard for school districts located in a city with a population of one million or more from applying to initial charter school applications to all charter school applications.
The bill aims to amend the education law to establish new requirements for charter school applications in certain school districts. For charter schools in districts with a population of one million or more, the total enrollment of students attending charter schools in the community district where the charter school will be located must be less than or equal to 55% of the total public school enrollment in that district. This change is intended to ensure that charter schools are not overly reliant on students from the surrounding community, but rather serve a diverse student population.
