S 3820: Requires health insurance policies include coverage for anesthesia for the entire duration of a procedure for which a licensed medical practitioner has issued an order for such anesthesia.
The bill requires health insurance policies to cover anesthesia services for the entire duration of a medical procedure, without imposing time limits. This means that insurance companies cannot limit the payment of anesthesia services based on the length of the procedure. Instead, payment will be based on a base fee plus time units, with each time unit interval no longer than 15 minutes. Anesthesia time will be calculated from when the anesthesia provider begins preparing the patient for anesthesia services to when they stop providing services. Insurance companies must use prevailing medical coding and billing standards to determine payment for anesthesia services. This change aims to ensure that patients receive comprehensive coverage for anesthesia services, without unnecessary time limits or restrictions.
