What S 3937 does, verified April 10, 2025

The bill aims to prohibit state agencies and local municipalities from imposing time limits on shelter stays for individuals and families. This means that individuals and families can stay in shelters as long as they are safe and comply with all applicable laws. In emergency congregate housing, individuals and families can stay for more than 96 hours without being moved. Shelter stays are prohibited only when there is imminent danger or a request from the individual or family to be transferred. The bill also ensures that individuals and families living in shelters operated by the state or under contract with the state can maintain their eligibility for temporary housing assistance.
