Senate BillIntroduced
S 4009: Requires coverage under the healthy New York program for mental illness.
What S 4009 does, verified January 8, 2026
The proposed legislation aims to expand health insurance coverage in New York to include mental health conditions. Currently, health insurance policies sold in the state must provide coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of mental health conditions, including inpatient hospital care and physician services. The new law will ensure that all health insurance policies, including those sold to individuals and groups, must cover mental health conditions. This change will apply to both new and existing policies, and will take effect immediately.
