What S 4407 does, verified January 10, 2026

The bill proposes to amend the Election Law in New York. It reduces the required number of signatures for designating petitions in counties with a population of 250,000 or fewer by one-quarter, rounded down to the nearest whole number. This reduction applies to petitions for political subdivisions, excluding congressional or statewide offices. However, for positions like member of the ward, town, city, or county committee, petitions must be signed by at least three and three-quarters percent of the then-enrolled voters of the party residing within the political unit. The changes take effect immediately.
