What S 4524 does, verified January 8, 2026
The proposed law requires businesses that provide telephone number spoofing services to keep certain records. These records must include the phone number that would be displayed on the caller identification device of the person receiving the phone call, the telephone number or internet protocol address of the device placing the call, and the time, date, and duration of the telephone call. This information is intended to help prevent and investigate cases of telephone number spoofing, which can be used to make unwanted or fraudulent calls. The records must be kept for a period of time to be specified by the law.
