What S 4616 does, verified January 9, 2026

The proposed legislation aims to prohibit the use of schoolhouses and grounds for providing permanent or temporary housing for migrant populations in districts outside of cities with a population of one million or more. This means that school buildings in these areas cannot be converted into shelters or used as temporary housing facilities. The law will take effect immediately, and its main goal is to protect school spaces from being used for purposes that could disrupt the educational environment.
