What S 5094 does, verified January 8, 2026

The proposed law aims to modify the rules for parole and good behavior allowances for individuals serving sentences for violent felony offenses. A person serving a sentence for a violent felony offense cannot be conditionally released or paroled if the state board of parole determines that their release would pose an imminent threat to society. Additionally, the law would modify the rules for good behavior allowances, which would be withheld by the state board of parole if a person serving a sentence for a violent felony offense is deemed to pose an imminent threat to society. The law would also require individuals serving sentences for violent felony offenses to be under supervision of the department of corrections and community supervision for a period equal to the unserved portion of their sentence.
