Senate BillIntroduced
S 5214: Designates September 11th as a public holiday to be known as September 11th Memorial and Remembrance Day.
What S 5214 does, verified June 25, 2026
The proposed law aims to designate September 11 as a public holiday in New York State. This law would add September 11 to the list of public holidays, which currently includes federal holidays and some state-specific observances. The law would also define a half-holiday as the period from noon to midnight on Saturdays that are not public holidays. This change would allow for an additional day off for state employees and potentially for private sector workers as well. The law would take effect immediately.
