What S 526 does, verified January 11, 2026

The bill aims to modify the real property tax law in New York. It introduces a new rule that prohibits additional interest from accruing on missed installment payments before the due date of such payment. Instead, interest will only begin to accrue from the due date of the missed payment, which is the same as the original due date. This change is intended to provide more clarity and fairness for property owners who miss installment payments. The bill takes effect immediately.
