S 5308: Requires self-supporting life insurance and annuity business policies.
The bill aims to ensure life insurance and annuity business policies are self-supporting. A new requirement will be added, stating that no company can offer for sale any life insurance policy form or annuity contract form that does not appear to be self-supporting. To demonstrate this, companies must submit a statement with each policy or contract form, signed by an actuary who meets specific qualifications, along with a supporting demonstration. This statement and demonstration must be retained by the company for a period of six years. The superintendent will promulgate guidelines for the demonstration. The bill will take effect on January 1, and the addition of any necessary rules or regulations must be implemented by that date.
