What S 5309 does, verified January 8, 2026

The proposed law aims to regulate private air ambulance services in New York. Private air ambulance services that meet specific requirements may be considered exempt from insurance regulations. To qualify, the service must have a valid operating certificate, be a non-profit organization, and have operated in the state for at least two years. The service must also provide clear disclosure to applicants and members that the service is not insurance and cannot be considered secondary or supplemental coverage. Additionally, the service must only offer products from its own providers and submit evidence of compliance to the superintendent. This law would take effect 30 days after it becomes a law.
