S 5466: Permits certain federal law enforcement officers and retired officers to possess firearms, rifles and shotguns in restricted and sensitive locations.
The bill aims to expand the types of individuals who are allowed to possess firearms in restricted and sensitive locations. Currently, certain federal law enforcement officers and retired officers are permitted to carry firearms in these areas. The bill would add three new categories of individuals who would be allowed to possess firearms in these locations, including: - People participating in military ceremonies, funerals, and honor guards - Individuals engaging in the sport of biathlon, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations - Retired federal law enforcement officers who obtain a license for a pistol or revolver through their local licensing authority The bill would also clarify the definition of a federal law enforcement officer and expand the types of individuals who are authorized to carry firearms in their official duties. The changes would take effect immediately.
