What S 5629 does, verified January 8, 2026

The bill aims to amend the labor law by establishing a new standard for the number of hours that constitute a workweek. Thirty-two hours will be considered a legal week's work for most employees, except those engaged in farm work or affected by a specific exemption. This change will not prevent employees from agreeing to work more hours for increased compensation, but it will apply to state, municipal, and contractor employees, as well as those working for contractors or subcontractors. The amendments will take effect immediately.
