What S 5699 does, verified January 9, 2026

The bill establishes a formal process for a parent or legal guardian to request the issuance of an Amber Alert. A missing child alert can only be issued if a police department advises that releasing the information will not jeopardize the investigation or the child's safety. The request must be made to the Division of State Police for review. The bill allows police agencies to transmit information to the nearest electronic entry point for dispatch, rather than requiring a direct connection to the Basic Police Communication System. The bill takes effect immediately.
