S 5725: Relates to New York observing daylight savings time permanently.
The bill aims to make the state of New York observe daylight saving time year-round, if the US Congress amends the relevant federal law to allow states to do so. If the amendment is made, the state would adopt standard time as the permanent time zone, and all political subdivisions would follow the Eastern Time Zone. The bill would amend the state's general construction law to reflect this change, and would also repeal a section of the city of New York's administrative code that currently deals with daylight saving time. The changes would take effect at the earlier of two o'clock in the afternoon on the first Sunday in November or the second Sunday in March, depending on when the federal amendment is made.
