What S 5745 does, verified January 10, 2026
The proposed law aims to strengthen penalties for certain sex-related crimes in New York. It would classify offenses such as prostitution, sex trafficking, and related crimes as felony sex offenses. These offenses currently carry misdemeanor penalties, but the proposed law would increase their severity. The law would also include convictions for certain sex-related crimes as felony sex offenses, regardless of whether they were committed with a victim under the age of 18 or as a sex trafficking offense. The proposed law would take effect immediately.
