S 5872: Requires websites providing sex offender registry information to be searchable by the zip code of a registrant's employment.
The bill aims to enhance the sex offender registry in New York by requiring the inclusion of additional information, such as the offender's address, place of employment, and background information, in the subdirectory of level two and three sex offenders. The subdirectory will be categorized by county and zip code and made available on the internet at all times. The information will be searchable by zip code for both the offender's residence address and their place of employment. The division will also provide automated email notifications to individuals who request it, whenever a new or updated subdirectory registration occurs in a specified geographic area. These notifications will be limited to three geographic areas per email account and will be provided at no charge. The bill will take effect on the ninetieth day after it becomes a law.
