S 6154: Prohibits fractional pricing of any motor fuel for use in internal combustion engines in motor vehicles or motorboats; imposes civil penalties of up to twenty-five dollars per day.
What S 6154 does, verified April 10, 2026
The bill aims to prohibit the sale of certain petroleum products at retail, specifically motor fuels for use in internal combustion engines in vehicles or motorboats, with prices that include fractions of a cent. This means that prices must be rounded to the nearest cent. Failure to comply with this provision will result in a civil penalty of up to $25 for each day of non-compliance. The bill also allows for the display of prices with numerals that are at least half the height and width required by law, but notes that prices can be displayed with tenths of a cent if the dimensions meet the requirements. The bill will take effect 180 days after it becomes law.
