The proposed law aims to protect consumers from debt collectors. When a consumer has not taken action to dispute or resolve a debt within a certain timeframe, the creditor's right to collect the debt expires. This includes all attempts to collect the debt, such as phone calls, mail, or other forms of communication. The law will take effect immediately, ensuring that consumers are protected from excessive debt collection efforts.
