What S 6410 does, verified January 8, 2026

This act, known as "Alyssa's Law," aims to improve school safety in New York State. The law requires that all public elementary and secondary schools install panic alarm systems, which are silent security systems that can be activated to signal a life-threatening emergency. These systems must be linked to local law enforcement authorities and transmit a signal or message immediately upon activation. The law also allows school districts to use existing panic alarm systems that meet the requirements, and it provides funding for the purchase or installation of new systems. The law takes effect immediately, with all school districts required to be in compliance within one year.
