Senate BillIntroduced
S 6477: Requires that the siting, construction and establishment of methadone program facilities in cities with a population of one million or more be dispersed in the boroughs of such cities in proportion to the population of each such borough.
What S 6477 does, verified January 9, 2026
The bill requires methadone program facilities in cities with a population of one million or more to be dispersed in the boroughs in proportion to each borough's population. This means that the number of facilities should be evenly distributed across the city's five boroughs. The bill also prohibits the siting, construction, or establishment of methadone program facilities in a borough unless the community board or neighborhood board has approved the location. The facilities should be located in the boroughs with the lowest concentration of facilities first, and then in subsequent boroughs until the facilities are evenly distributed.
