S 6568: Establishes the construction insurance notification act (CINA) requiring notification of governmental agencies and departments when certain construction insurance policies have lapsed or been canceled.
The Construction Insurance Notification Act requires insurers to notify governmental agencies and departments when certain construction insurance policies have lapsed or been canceled. Insurers must inquire about the purchase of insurance being submitted to obtain a government permit for building activities. If the answer is affirmative, the applicant must provide the name, address, and website of the governmental department or agency. The applicant must swear or affirm the accuracy of the information provided. Insurers must notify the governmental agency or department within ten days of the lapse or cancellation of the policy. Failure to provide timely notice does not result in the policy being canceled. The policy remains in full force and effect for the term of the contract or policy. The act takes effect on the ninetieth day after it becomes a law.
