Senate BillIntroduced
S 6604: Authorizes local governments to pay higher levels of minimum wage.
What S 6604 does, verified January 8, 2026
The proposed law aims to allow local governments in New York to establish and enforce higher minimum wage standards within their geographic boundaries. This means that municipalities can create their own minimum wage laws that are more protective or higher than the state's minimum wage requirements. The law does not preempt any existing provisions and allows for local governments to set their own minimum wage benefits standards. The law will take effect immediately.
