S 6782: Provides for when the department may limit the census of persons with a serious mental illness residing in an adult home.
The bill aims to improve the care and treatment of individuals with serious mental illness residing in adult homes. The adult homes must be operated by a not-for-profit corporation that also provides a continuum of housing and residential services. The homes must assess residents periodically to ensure they are living in the most integrated setting possible. Adult homes must address the needs of residents with serious mental illness by promoting independent living skills, access to quality mental health services, community involvement, and a homelike atmosphere. The definition of "persons with serious mental illness" is established based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition, Text Revision. The bill takes effect immediately, allowing for immediate implementation of these requirements.
